Nigeria TV Info — PDP Chieftain Urges Tinubu to Direct Minister Tunji-Ojo to Clear Name Over NYSC, Corruption Allegations

Abuja, Nigeria — October 23, 2025

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Taofik Gani, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to uphold transparency and fairness in his administration by directing the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to publicly clear his name over alleged irregularities in his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) record and past corruption allegations.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Gani — a former spokesperson of the PDP in Lagos State — cautioned that the growing perception of nepotism and selective justice within the Tinubu-led administration could weaken public trust in the government’s anti-corruption drive.

According to him, multiple petitions have been filed against Tunji-Ojo, including allegations that he absconded during his NYSC service year but still presented a discharge certificate during his ministerial screening.

Gani also recalled that the minister was previously linked to the ₦438.1 million consultancy contract scandal that resulted in the suspension and eventual removal of former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu.

He accused the president of allegedly shielding certain cabinet members from the South-West, urging Tinubu to dispel such notions by demanding accountability across all ministries.

> “If President Tinubu and his party, the APC, are sincere about fighting corruption, the minister should be directed to clear himself or resign honorably like Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned after allegations of certificate forgery,” Gani stated.

The PDP stalwart warned that allowing Tunji-Ojo to remain in office amid unresolved allegations could further tarnish the administration’s image and Nigeria’s credibility on the global stage.

He also questioned the thoroughness of the vetting and security clearance processes conducted before ministerial appointments, emphasizing the need for stricter due diligence to prevent future controversies.
