Mbah Defends Defection to APC: ‘If I Were After Personal Interest, I Wouldn’t Leave PDP’
Former Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has defended his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that his decision was driven by a desire to contribute to national development rather than personal gain. Speaking during a press conference in Enugu, Mbah dismissed insinuations that his move was politically motivated or influenced by promises of federal appointments.
According to him, his defection was guided by a conviction that the APC, under President Bola Tinubu, offers the best platform to deliver on Nigeria’s developmental aspirations. “If I were after personal interests, I would have remained in the PDP where I had comfort, influence, and structures,” Mbah stated.
He urged his supporters to see the move as an opportunity to align Enugu with the federal government for greater development, emphasizing unity and collaboration over partisanship. Mbah also called on politicians to prioritize the welfare of the people above political affiliations.
Political observers believe Mbah’s move could alter the political dynamics in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as more defections from opposition parties are expected.
