Obi of Onitsha: Politicians Have Abandoned Governance for 2027 Politics

The Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, has expressed deep concern over the growing distraction among Nigerian politicians who, he said, have shifted their focus from governance to early political scheming for the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an event in Onitsha, Anambra State, the monarch lamented that vital developmental issues are being neglected while leaders engage in power struggles and succession politics.

He urged elected officials to prioritize the welfare of citizens, warning that continued neglect of governance could worsen insecurity, poverty, and public distrust. The revered traditional ruler called on both federal and state governments to recommit to the nation’s economic recovery and institutional reforms rather than playing politics with the lives of Nigerians.

Achebe further advised political parties to enforce discipline and transparency among their members, stressing that good governance remains the foundation of credible leadership.
