Headline: Police Pensioners Set for Nationwide Protests as Negotiations with Government Collapse

News:
Tensions have escalated among retired police officers as talks with the federal government over unpaid pensions and gratuities collapsed on Tuesday. The pensioners, under the Nigeria Police Retirees Association (NPRA), announced plans to stage peaceful protests across the country next week.

According to the group, the government has failed to implement the approved Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS) and address irregularities in pension payments. The NPRA Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Bature, said the retirees have endured years of neglect despite repeated assurances from the Ministry of Police Affairs and the National Pension Commission.

Bature lamented that many retired officers live in poverty after serving the nation for decades, warning that their patience has “reached the limit.” He urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene urgently to avert mass demonstrations and restore dignity to police retirees.

The Ministry of Police Affairs, however, appealed for calm, stating that discussions are ongoing and that the government remains committed to finding a lasting solution to the pension dispute.
