Yuletide Warning: Overeating Could Trigger Heart Attacks, Experts Alert Nigerians

As Nigerians prepare to celebrate the festive season, health experts have issued a stern warning against excessive eating and unhealthy dietary habits during Christmas and New Year festivities. Cardiologists from leading hospitals across Nigeria emphasized that overindulgence, particularly in fatty and sugary foods, can significantly increase the risk of heart attacks, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications.

Dr. Adeyemi Olufemi, a cardiologist in Lagos, stated that sudden consumption of large meals can overwhelm the heart, especially in individuals with pre-existing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Experts advised Nigerians to moderate portion sizes, stay hydrated, and maintain physical activity, even during the holiday season.

The Nigerian Heart Foundation also highlighted that festive indulgence combined with alcohol and lack of exercise could be fatal, urging citizens to balance celebrations with healthy practices. They recommended regular check-ups for at-risk individuals and immediate medical attention for any signs of chest pain, dizziness, or breathlessness.

With festive celebrations in full swing, medical professionals stress that awareness and moderation are key to enjoying the Yuletide safely.
