AfDB, Japan Launch Sixth Phase of EPSA Initiative at TICAD9
The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have announced the inauguration of the sixth phase of the Enhanced Private Sector Assistance (EPSA6) initiative.
According to a statement published on the AfDB’s official website, both organisations formalised the agreement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the ongoing Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan.
The EPSA initiative, which has been jointly implemented by the AfDB and JICA since 2005, aims to boost private sector development, accelerate economic growth, and strengthen financial support for infrastructure and sustainable development across Africa.
The launch of EPSA6 reaffirms Japan’s commitment to Africa’s economic transformation, with an emphasis on inclusive growth, climate resilience, and industrialisation.
Officials from both institutions described the renewed partnership as a milestone that would deepen cooperation and unlock new investment opportunities for African businesses and entrepreneurs.
