Dangote Refinery Slashes Petrol and Diesel Prices Again as Competition Intensifies in Nigeria

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced another reduction in the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), in a fresh move expected to ease fuel costs and intensify competition in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.

According to recent pricing updates, petrol has been reduced from about ₩1,275 per litre to ₩1,250 per litre, while diesel (AGO) has been cut from around ₩1,800 per litre to ₩1,700 per litre.

The latest adjustment comes amid ongoing volatility in global crude oil prices and increasing competition among fuel marketers in Nigeria’s deregulated petroleum market. Industry analysts say the refinery’s repeated price cuts are aimed at stabilizing domestic supply and maintaining market leadership.

Earlier price movements in 2026 also show a consistent downward trend in diesel pricing, with reductions driven by competitive pressures and efforts to reduce inflationary impact on transport and production costs.

The Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest, has significantly reshaped Nigeria’s fuel market since it began operations, reducing reliance on imported petroleum products and influencing depot pricing nationwide.

Experts believe the latest cut could lead to gradual reductions at filling stations, though final retail prices will depend on logistics, distribution margins, and regional factors.
