PENGASSAN Demands Withdrawal of Tinubu’s Executive Order on Oil Revenues
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately withdraw his recent Executive Order on oil revenues, warning that the directive could destabilize the petroleum sector and undermine transparency in revenue management.
The union expressed concern that the order, which reportedly alters revenue allocation frameworks and operational guidelines within the oil and gas industry, may reduce accountability and create uncertainty for investors. According to PENGASSAN leaders, the move could also affect workers’ welfare and disrupt ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening governance in the sector.
Union officials argue that major policy changes of this magnitude should involve broad consultation with stakeholders, including industry professionals, labor unions, and regulatory agencies. They stressed that excluding key stakeholders from the decision-making process risks eroding trust and weakening institutional oversight.
PENGASSAN further warned that the directive could complicate fiscal planning and revenue projections within Nigeria, whose economy remains heavily dependent on oil exports. The union emphasized the need for policies that promote stability, transparency, and long-term growth rather than sudden structural adjustments.
In response, government representatives have defended the Executive Order as part of broader efforts to reform revenue administration and enhance efficiency in the oil sector. However, PENGASSAN insists that the policy should be reviewed or suspended pending wider consultations and impact assessments.
The union says it remains open to dialogue but is prepared to pursue lawful actions to ensure that the interests of industry workers and the national economy are protected.
