Petrol Remains N865/Litre Despite Dangote’s Free Delivery Offer
Despite Dangote Refinery’s offer to deliver fuel to depots at no cost, the pump price of petrol remains unchanged at N865 per litre across major Nigerian cities. Industry sources attribute this to high distribution costs, taxes, and depot charges, which marketers claim continue to inflate retail prices.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and independent marketers have yet to agree on a new pricing framework that reflects Dangote’s zero-delivery initiative. Consumers expected a reduction following Dangote’s announcement, but filling stations in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano maintained old rates.
Economists argue that without government intervention in logistics and multiple levies, the refinery’s cost-cutting efforts may have minimal impact on end-users. The Dangote Refinery recently began large-scale supply to domestic marketers in an effort to stabilize fuel availability and pricing.
