Sacked Workers: PENGASSAN Threatens to Picket Dangote Refinery
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has threatened to picket the Dangote Refinery following the alleged mass sack of some of its members. The union accused the company of unfair labour practices and vowed to mobilise its members nationwide if the workers are not reinstated.
According to PENGASSAN, several employees were dismissed without due process, despite their contributions to the operations of the refinery. The association described the action as âanti-labourâ and a breach of Nigeriaâs labour laws.
National officers of the union disclosed that they had written several letters to the refineryâs management demanding a reversal of the decision, but no positive response had been received.
PENGASSAN warned that if the situation persists, the refinery could face disruptions in its operations as workers would be compelled to stage protests and occupy the facility.
The Dangote Refinery, commissioned to reduce Nigeriaâs reliance on fuel imports, has been at the centre of national attention since its operations commenced. A standoff with organised labour could significantly affect its production and supply chain.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment is expected to intervene to avert an industrial crisis that could impact the countryâs energy sector.
