The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed heartfelt sympathy to the governments and people of Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica following the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Melissa, which left widespread destruction across the Caribbean nations.

In a statement released on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Nigeria received with profound sorrow and deep sympathy the news of the devastating hurricane that ravaged the sister nations.

Ebienfa noted that the images and reports emerging from the affected countries — showing severe flooding, destruction of property, and tragic loss of lives — were deeply distressing.

He said Nigeria stands in solidarity with the governments and resilient peoples of Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica during this difficult period, commending the heroic efforts of their emergency response teams working tirelessly to save lives and provide relief amid challenging conditions.
