Nigeria TV Info — Intense Russian Missile, Drone Strikes Kill Five, Knock Out Power Across Ukraine
Kyiv, Ukraine — Intense overnight Russian missile and drone attacks have left at least five people dead and tens of thousands without electricity across Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday.
According to Zelensky, four members of a single family — including a 15-year-old girl — were killed when a missile struck their home in the village of Lapaivka, in Ukraine’s western Lviv region. Another person was confirmed dead in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, while several others sustained injuries, including relatives and neighbours of the victims.
Ukraine’s air force reported intercepting numerous incoming threats as Russia launched more than 50 missiles and around 500 attack drones, resulting in a staggering 549 combined aerial assaults overnight. The strikes primarily targeted western Ukraine, particularly Lviv, but also hit Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, and Kirovohrad regions.
Officials described the attacks as part of Moscow’s ongoing strategy to cripple Ukraine’s energy grid and sow instability among civilians as the country braces for another harsh winter.
Lviv endured what authorities called its largest attack since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022. Regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi said roughly 163 missiles and drones were detected over the region, many of which targeted residential homes, hospitals, industrial facilities, and gas transport infrastructure.
Lviv’s Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed that parts of the city — located just 70 kilometers from the Polish border — were left without power for several hours, forcing the suspension of public transport and leaving many residents in the dark overnight.
Zelensky vowed a strong response, stating that Ukraine’s defense forces would “continue to strengthen air defenses and protect our people from Russia’s terror.”
