FCT Farmers Decry Rising Costs of Fertilisers, Agro-Chemicals
Some farmers in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have raised concerns over the escalating prices of fertilisers and agro-chemicals, which they say are threatening food production and their livelihoods.
Speaking in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja, the farmers lamented that the rising costs have made it increasingly difficult for them to maintain their farms and ensure good harvests.
They noted that fertilisers and agro-chemicals, which are critical for boosting productivity, are now beyond the reach of many smallholder farmers. According to them, the situation could lead to reduced yields, higher food prices, and worsening food insecurity in the country.
The farmers appealed to the government to intervene by providing subsidies or direct support to help ease their burden and ensure sustainable agricultural production.
