Nigeria TV Info — FG Reaffirms Cashew as Vital to Nigeria’s Non-Oil Export Economy
Abuja, Nigeria — October 13, 2025: The Federal Government has reaffirmed the importance of cashew as a key cash crop driving Nigeria’s non-oil export growth and diversification agenda.
Mr. Abiodun Yinusa, the Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture, made this known in a press statement supporting the newly constituted Interim National Committee of the National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN).
According to Yinusa, the establishment of the new leadership is a timely and necessary step to restore order to the association after years of constitutional breaches and leadership crises.
> “NCAN is too important to Nigeria’s non-oil export economy to be left in crisis,” Yinusa said. “We are sanitizing our agricultural institutions to ensure they contribute meaningfully to our economy without overdependence on oil revenue.”
He commended the unanimous appointment of Mr. Ademola Adesokan, an Executive Member of NCAN, as the Interim National President, describing him as a credible leader with a strong background in agribusiness.
> “We believe the Interim Committee, under Mr. Adesokan, will align fully with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes food security, value addition, and agricultural transformation,” Yinusa added.
The Presidential aide further disclosed that the government has directed all NCAN state chapters to undergo restructuring and conduct fresh elections within one year from today’s date.
Yinusa also praised the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment for their support in developing the Cashew Policy Roadmap, reaffirming NCAN’s position as a key partner in implementing the national cashew development strategy.
